Place Listening is an installation exploring how sound may act as a trigger for memories, be they real or imagined. Rooted in a series of auto-fictional exercises interpolated from archival photographs from Wendi’s own personal history, this work traces her life-long nomadic journeys across Asia from childhood to adulthood, and her observation straddling in between the city and her current anchorage in the remote mountains of Hong Kong, to imagine new speculative possibilities of what Wendi could have been. This work probes at how objects and texts may generate meaningful responses to the constructions based on these micro memories and narratives.
